Common questions

Why is there a note under my results?

Each method has a range it was derived for. When the solved state is outside it, such as a head far above a spillway's design head, the app still gives the value and adds a note saying what to check.

Why does the sluice gate refuse some discharges?

Where the tailwater is close to the sequent depth of the jet, the flow steps between free and submerged, and no gate setting gives a discharge inside that step. Change the discharge or the tailwater slightly.

Why is the culvert headwater marked approximate at low flows?

Outlet control is computed with the barrel taken as full, after FHWA HDS-5. Below a headwater of about three quarters of the rise that overestimates, and a backwater calculation is the better tool.

Where are my saved calculations?

Under the Saved tab, on the device only. Deleting the app deletes them.

Which units are used?

Metric (m, m³/s) or English (ft, ft³/s), chosen on each form. The default for new calculations is under About.
